Sphynx kittens in Dubai: the honest buyer's guide

What to ask, what to check and what to walk away from before you buy a Sphynx kitten in Dubai — from health records and visits to the real cost of cash-only breeders.

A Sphynx cat in low light, looking directly at the camera

A Sphynx is not an impulse purchase with a hairless body. It is a fifteen-year relationship with a cat that wants to be in the same room as you, on the same blanket, preferably on your chest.

That is wonderful — and it is exactly why the buying process deserves more care than a WhatsApp message and a bank transfer. Here is what we would want to know if we were buying a Sphynx kitten in Dubai.

Start with the cat in front of you

Photos are a preview, not proof. Ask to meet the kitten and, ideally, the mother. You are not just checking the kitten’s face; you are seeing where it was raised, how it reacts to being handled, and whether the home feels calm.

A breeder who will not arrange a visit, a video call or a neutral meeting is asking you to buy a story. You deserve better than that.

Ask for records, not adjectives

“Healthy”, “premium” and “well-socialised” are marketing words. Records are evidence. Before you reserve, ask to see:

  • The kitten’s vet record and vaccination history appropriate to its age
  • Microchip details and deworming record
  • The mother’s health information, where available
  • A written receipt for every payment

If a breeder cannot explain what is included, assume it is not included.

Understand what the price covers

Two kittens advertised at the same price can include very different things. One may include vaccinations, microchip, food and a starter pack; another may include none of that. Ask for a written breakdown before you compare.

In the UAE, kitten prices vary with the line, colour, sex and what the breeder provides. A low headline price is not a bargain if the first vet visit and setup cost more than the difference.

The kitten is also the cheap part. Budget for:

  • A vet check shortly after homecoming
  • Food, litter and a covered litter box
  • A warm bed, blankets and a carrier
  • Nail clippers, ear cleaner and gentle skin care
  • A scratching post and toys
  • Pet insurance, if available on your policy
  • A sitter or boarding plan for holidays

Be careful with payment

We take cash in person and provide a receipt. That is not the only safe way to buy a kitten, but it is ours — and it means you see what you are paying for.

Be cautious of anyone who asks for the full amount before a visit, refuses a receipt, or pressures you with “someone else is coming tomorrow”. Urgency is a sales tactic, not a health certificate.

The questions that reveal the most

Ask these plainly:

  1. How old will the kitten be when it leaves?
  2. What food is it eating now, and how should I transition it?
  3. Has it been around children, dogs, other cats and ordinary household noise?
  4. What happens if my circumstances change?
  5. Can I speak to a previous owner?
  6. What support do you offer after collection?

The answers matter more than the pedigree folder.

Dubai is not a normal cat environment

A Sphynx has no coat to protect it from the sun, and the UAE summer is not forgiving. Plan for an indoor cat, air conditioning, shade and constant water. Direct midday sun can burn their skin.

If you travel often, decide now who will care for the cat, and make sure that person understands the breed. A Sphynx bonds hard; a last-minute kennel is not fair on it.

A note on “hypoallergenic”

Sphynx are not hypoallergenic. No cat is. They produce less loose hair, but the allergen is in their saliva and skin oils. If someone in your home has a cat allergy, spend time with a Sphynx first — not just a photo. We wrote a longer, honest explanation here.

When to walk away

Walk away if:

  • You cannot see the mother or the home
  • There are no records, or the records are vague
  • The kitten looks unwell, is very young, or is being handed over in a car park
  • The breeder will not answer basic questions in writing
  • You feel rushed or embarrassed for asking

A good breeder will sometimes tell you that a particular kitten is not the right fit. That is not a lost sale; that is the whole point.

If you are considering one of our kittens, start with the current litter and then send us a message. We will ask about your home before we talk about a deposit.

This guide is general information, not veterinary or legal advice. Confirm current UAE requirements for pet sales, microchipping and export with your vet and the relevant authority.
